CHARACTER
Name: Bertholdt Fubar
Canon: Attack on Titan
Age: 17
Timeline: Chapter 52
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: This is only to be used if are already playing another character from the canon you are applying for. For example, if you are apping Mario and you already play Princess Peach in the game, how will you handle their interactions without playercesting? Depending on your answer, you may be refused the character you are apping for.

Personality:

Bertholdt is quiet and more than a little shy. In the official ratings he's noted as being a coward and has a self esteem of one or two ...out of ten. During training camp, though he was third from the top in ranking, he was said to be skilled but lacking any initiative. He's very much a "background character," who says very little and gives nothing away. He prefers to be lead, and follows popular opinion, making him a good best friend for Reiner, who is very much a leader. He says himself that he is weak willed. Bertholdt is very timid and as a result of his weak will, and extremely easy to push around. A doormat, if you will. He may not be easily convinced of something, but he'll probably go along with it if you ask. His speech is slow and deliberate, and it takes him a while to figure out what to say, preferring to think things through.

During the Clash of the Titans Arc, we get a lot more development for Bertholdt, finding that he is very cowardly and only wants to "return home." He reminds Reiner that they are Warriors, not soldiers, in a bid to get him to remember their mission, desperate for Reiner to "come back to his senses" so they can get out of there. He lacks the initiative to lead and wanted to join the Military Police to "lead a safe life." This is averted later of course, when the reader knows their initial plan was to invade the Interior, but he never wanted to join the Scouting Legion until meekly following Reiner, as usual, into that military branch.

Despite this, he is incredibly cold to others, and very indifferent. When confronted by Eren about being the cause of his mother's death, Bertholdt simply states that it was unfortunate. He doesn't seem to feel guilt for what he's done. The only thing that can get a rise out of him is Reiner or the mention of. He cares very much for his friend and is extremely worried over the idea that Reiner is forgetting more and more, not only about their Mission but also their childhood. His personality also seems to differ a bit around Reiner, as he's more open with the blond and more easily animated.

Bertholdt sweats a lot, and only sweats more when he's nervous or riled up. He's easily nervous due to how timid he is, and may clam up or shake if he's truly bothered by something someone says.

We find that later on, however, Bertholdt's coldness is just another mask. When confronted by Jean and the rest of those who've come to save Eren, Bertholdt cries and tells them that the only time he's ever been happy is with his comrades in the military. That he'd never want to hurt them, and that he was only doing "what was natural." In other words, under all his wrappings to keep a straight (if sweaty) face and push people away... Bertholdt is a huge dere baby who cries. Of course... directly after that he tells Armin he's going to murder every single one of them, but that was out of necessity. Who knows?

Background: Wiki!

Abilities:

Bertholdt graduated in the third ranking position of the training corps, and is known for being the best in their squadron at the use of 3DMG. This is most likely due to his long, lanky body as the 3DMG is best used by someone with a light, slender frame. Because of this, it's usually female soldiers who use it the best. Beyond that, he has basic military survival training and close quarters combat skills. He is muscular and strong.

As the Colossal Titan, Bertholdt is 60m tall and ill proportioned with long arms and legs and a short torso. He is very slow due to his size, and only able to hit unmoving objects (such as walls,) making him ill suited for fighting. As a defense mechanism, he can shoot boiling steam off of his body to deter attackers, so hot it can burn human skin. Because of this, and his high body heat and tendency to sweat, it's very likely he has an extremely high body temperature even in human form. Most speculate he was born/created for the soul purpose for tearing down the walls, and thus he considers himself nothing more than a weapon. He also has a Titan's healing powers, able to regenerate any part of himself if not struck in the back of the neck.

Third Person:

At that moment, like many times in his life, Bertholdt hadn't known what to do. Their training corps squad had been sent up into the mountains for a field exercise during the week, and two days into the expedition it had snowed. It had already been cold, but with the sudden blizzard and a lack of dry fire wood, things in the camp had been looking tense. They all knew that those in the military training could die, many in the 104th division already had, be it accidents during 3DMG training or otherwise. They all knew that if any of them died up in the mountains like this, from cold, they wouldn't be given a second thought. It was during this time that Armin of all people had made the suggestion to huddle and keep warm in one tent. Bertholdt had been able to hear the snow sharply outside of the burlap tents and no one had spoken when they had all clambered into the boy's tent to try and survive the night.

He had known that he and Reiner would be fine out like this, Annie too. The cold was terrible, but it wasn't something that affected their bodies. What he hadn't bet on were the other cadets around them noticing how much warmer they were compared to them. Bertholdt in particular had such a high body temperature due to the Colossal Titan's ability. Jean had noticed first, closest to him on his other side. Reiner, of course, had been sitting next to Bertholdt. Soon he'd mentioned it to Marco, who'd mentioned it to Sasha who, of course, had mentioned it to everyone else. Finding himself in a situation like this hadn't been what he'd expected at all. His friends had piled all around him, some with their heads on his thighs, others hugging him from behind, anything they could do to leech off his body heat they had done. Physical contact like that, that hadn't come from Reiner who he trusted most, was odd and a little frightening. Before this, no one had ever paid him much attention. At least, Bertholdt was sure they hadn't. It was hard to tell if someone was making fun of you, or simply teasing and having fun.

Like that though, with all of his squad mates around him like that, Bertholdt had felt... warm. Not in the sense of heat, but in the sense of heart. His chest had swelled in embarrassment and comfort alike, and a quick nervous glance to Reiner had assured him that it was okay. It would always be okay. Bertholdt had smiled and been so... content in that moment, even if he hadn't known what to do, how to react. He hadn't reacted at all, simply let himself relax and close his eyes.

Behind his eyelids though, away from all the warmth and happiness of his fellow cadets and the thought of survival, was the grim reminder of all he had done.
